Route Developer: DA

[1] From the entrance of the cemetery turn left, after 100 yards cross to the right hand side of Shiregreen Lane using the zebra crossing. Continue walking, cross Foxglove Road and turn right into Wincobank Road.

[2] At the end of Wincobank Road, turn right into Wincobank Avenue. Cross Wincobank Avenue and immediately after a block of houses, turn left into a path. Go straight on until you come to Bluebell Close (you can see Honeysuckle Road opposite). Turn right down Bluebell Close to the entrance to an open field. There is a footpath sign and a very narrow access point. Walk through the entrance to (A) Wincobank Woods and onto a hard-core path.

[3] Bear to the right along this, ignoring an early fork to the left. Use the path to walk around right edge of the open space until you come to the end of the path by two stones. Go through the stones, bear right along an unmade path, and then head right and walk a very short distance to a narrow access point.

[4] You are now on Windmill Lane, and you should be opposite Firth Park Avenue. Cross Windmill Lane and walk a short way along the left hand pavement of Firth Park Avenue. Soon you will see an entrance to (B) Hinde Common Woods through a narrow access point in the wall on your left.

[5] Head into the woods. Take care as the path can be uneven, and there are exposed tree roots. Walk over the brow of the hill, ignoring the steps down to your right. Join another path in front of you and turn left along it, walking downhill. Walk carefully down until you meet another path which you turn right along. You can see a couple of benches either side of the path ahead of you, take a rest if you need to.Walk on past the benches and past the foot of the steps to your right (these are the same steps you passed at the top of the hill). Keep ahead until you come out of the woods, past the signpost. You can see Firth Park ahead across the road.

[6] Follow the path to your right. Exit on to the pavement at a gap in the fence, next to the litter bin and a sign saying Hinde Common Woods. Turn right along the pavement, and immediately right up Firth Park Avenue. Walk up to the top of Firth Park Avenue, crossing carefully to the left hand pavement. You will pass the entrance to the woods you went through earlier.

[7] Turn left at the junction with Windmill Lane. Cross Windmill Lane and take the next right into Marigold Close. Go through the bollards to a pedestrianised section. You are now on Clover Gardens. Turn left back up the short (unsigned) section of Bracken Road crossing to the right hand pavement and then turn right into Wincobank Avenue. After 70 yards look for a path on your left after the Flower State Tenants and Residents Association; this path take you to a football pitch.

[8] Follow the path to the right towards a car park. Walk through the car park and turn left into Foxglove Road. At the T junction turn left again and return to the cemetery crossing Shiregreen Lane at the zebra crossing.
