Moseley Bog
Like J R Tolkien, be inspired by the landscape of Springfield. This walk starts at the Sarehole Mill, a childhood haunt of Tolkien and the model for the Hobbiton mill in Lord of the Rings. It is one of the only surviving watermills of the sixty that were in Birmingham. From here, you will then pass where Tolkien lived and the Coldbath Brook, before discovering Moseley Bog. Now a nature reserve, this area contributed to Tolkien’s vision for the ‘The Shire’, the home of the Hobbits in his books. You can then head into Joy’s Wood and cross the large Wake Green Playing Fields before heading back.
