Queen’s Park and River Irk Walk
A walk incorporating the green open space of Queen’s Park and part of the River Irk.
Philips Park Cemetery – Velodrome
A walk to the cemetery and park via the Sport City collection of venues: the athletics
stadium, the tennis centre, the squash centre and the ‘City’ football stadium. The
cemetery includes areas for several different denominations.
Clayton Vale and Ashton Canal
A longer walk through many interesting and varied parts of the city of Manchester. It
starts at and returns to the visitor centre at Clayton Vale, passing through parkland and
along the river. It then progresses past several landmarks and along the canal.
Ashton Canal
A circular urban walk visiting the industrial heritage associated with the area. The walk
can be made shorter if so desired.
Chorlton Water Park 1
A ‘figure of eight’ easy access walk. The majority of the route follows a lake and a river.
Escape to Stretford
A circular walk around the Longford Park passing by the Chorlton Baths and houses
from the late 1920s and 1930s.
Old Chorlton Part 2
Starting from Chorlton Metrolink stop, this circular walk covers the second half of old
Chorlton, featuring leafy streets of Victorian houses, a glimpse of the Mersey valley
and a Coronation Street connection.

The Meadows and Chorlton Brook
Starting from Chorlton Park Centre. A circular walk through the leafy streets of Chorlton to the
meadows of Chorlton Ees Nature Reserve, and a visit to a churchyard with a dark

A pleasant circular walk through quiet suburban streets, including a museum and playing fields.
Manchester University
A leisurely stroll through the University area of Manchester walking through three parks
and passing the Whitworth Gallery which houses some of the best art works by Bacon,
Blake, Durer, Rembrandt & Turner. Lookout for a takeaway shop mural.
Peel Hall Park to Northenden Riverside Park (12 of 14)
The route follows public parks, woodlands and tree and grass-lined residential roads from an area of mid 1940′s social housing to the original 19th century village centre of Northenden.
Northenden Riverside to Fletcher Moss Gardens (13 of 14)
Follow the Trans Pennine Trail along the banks of the River Mersey from Northenden and finish in the beautiful Fletcher Moss Gardens in Didsbury.
Heaton Park to Queens Park (4 of 14)
An urban walk using several semi-rural valleys from Heaton Park to Queens Park, via Blackley Forest, Blackley Vale, Herristone Park, Crumpsall Park and Harpurhey Ponds.
Boggart Hole Clough to Heaton Park (3 of 14)
Start from Boggart Hole Clough into Baileys Wood and onto Rochdale Road, then continues in Planthill Park before a choice of Tweedle Common or Blackley Common, Ashenhurst Common. Both routes then visit Crab Lane heritage area before reaching Heaton Park.
Clayton Park to Boggart Hole Clough (2 of 14)
From Clayton Park, this route takes in a mix of urban/suburban areas and green space. The walk crosses the River Medlock, visits Brookdale Park, follows part of the Rochdale Canal, goes through Broadhurst Park and finally finishes in Boggart Hole Clough.
Ardwick Green to Whitworth Park (6 of 14)
This route through Manchester takes you from Ardwick Green, close to the City Centre, through a number of important Manchester parks, including Platt Fields and Whitworth Park, and with good public transport links en route.
Queens Park to Ardwick Green (5 of 14)
Following easy footpaths and pavements from Queens Park, this route links St Michaels Park, part of the Rochdale Canal and the Lower Medlock Valley, and finishes at Ardwick Green.
Alexandra Park to Ivy Green (8 of 14)
A pleasant walk starting in Alexandra Park, which passes William Hulme School, heads through Hough End along Chorlton Brook, along the Fallowfield Loop Line, through Chorlton Park and along Beech Road (just past Chorlton Green) to Ivy Green.
Fletcher Moss Park to Chapel Street Park (14 of 14)
This section of the Manchester’s Green Corridor route takes in eight parks and green spaces ranging from formal parks and playing fields to a local nature reserve.
Whitworth Park to Alexandra Park (7 of 14)
A route linking Whitworth Park and Alexandra Park going through Moss Side, passing two small parks providing a welcome patch of green in a heavily built up area.
Ivy Green to Chorlton Water Park (9 of 14)
A taste of the countryside in the city! This walk passes through woods, along a brook and a river (the Mersey) and beside a water meadow with cows, to Chorlton Water Park – a lovely lake with lots of ducks, geese and other water birds including grebes.
Alderman Rogers Park to Peel Hall Park (11 of 14)
This section of the Green Corridor includes four play areas and one wood. It also passes through a small area of elevated open countryside from which fine views can be obtained. There is a small lake near the play area in Painswick Park.
Chorlton Water Park to Alderman Rogers Park (10 of 14)
This route takes you through the beautiful area of Chorlton Water Park, through Kenworthy Woods and into Wythenshawe Park. It is suitable for buggies and cyclists and Chorlton Water Park and Wythenshawe Park are wheelchair friendly.
Chapel Street Park to Clayton Park (1 of 14)
A diverse route connecting urban green spaces with beautiful woodland, a disused canal, a canal towpath and finishing with a historic building surrounded by a moat.
Piccadilly & the Northern Quarter
This urban walk is an exploration of recent redevelopment north of the city centre along streets and canal towpaths in the Piccadilly and the Northern Quarter areas.

This is a long urban walk through of one of Manchester’s main conservation and heritage areas.
