A circular route from Alexandra Park to Fallowfield.

Starts at: Alexandra Park Community Centre, Alexandra Park, Moss Side, Manchester, M16 7AD

Ends at: Alexandra Park Community Centre, Alexandra Park, Moss Side, Manchester, M16 7AD

Route instructions:

Route Developer: Annettte Crane

[1] From the Centre in the park, walk straight on, with the lake on your right. Walk straight ahead, out of
the park (exiting the park at the Demesne Road exit). Cross Demesne Road and continue ahead along
Spring Bridge Road until you reach the busy Wilbraham Road.

[2] Cross Wilbraham Road, using the island crossing, and turn right then first left into Athol Road (no
through road). At the very end of Athol Road, turn left onto the pedestrian/cycle path. This is the
Fallowfield Loop, a disused railway, now a cycle path (look out for cyclists). Continue along the path until
you see a barrier on the left, just before the Yew Tree Road bridge. At this point, take the path through the
barrier/bollards to leave the Fallowfield Loop and cross the green area into Avian Drive.

[3] Continue directly ahead along the Avian Drive. When you meet Bethnal Drive, turn right and continue
to the junction with Yew Tree Road. Here, turn left along Yew Tree Road, crossing to the opposite side
when safe to do so. At the top of Yew Tree Road, cross Wilbraham Road (with care) at the traffic lights.
Once across, turn left to go around the corner and shortly on your right take the path which cuts through
to Platt Brooke Close. Walk directly ahead, following Platt Brooke Close to the junction with Hart Road.
Cross the road and turn left, then turn right to enter Platt Fields Park.

[4] Within Platt Fields Park, follow the main path until you come to a T-junction and here turn left. Continue
(you will see the lake over to your right) until you see a path on your left – take this. This will bring you out
onto Whitmore Road – turn left along it. Cross Yew Tree Road and continue. At the end of Whitmore Road,
cross Hart Road at the pedestrian crossing and turn right then left to enter Waverton Road ahead.
Continue on Waverton Road (crossing Nantwich Road to continue) and at the end of the road you’ll meet
a main junction. Turn left briefly to cross Lloyd Street North at the pedestrian crossing, and having crossed
turn right then left into Platt Lane. Continue along Platt Lane until you meet the busy Princess Road
junction. Here, turn left to use the pedestrian crossing over the dual carriageway. Once across, turn right
and cross the side road at the lights then continue ahead along Princess Road.

[5] You will pass Parkway Business Centre on your left, and just afterwards take the alley on your left which
cuts through to Demesne Road. Where Demesne Road meets Spring Bridge Road, turn right to re-enter
Alexandra Park and return to the Centre.
