This city walk takes you to Brookvale Park and goes past Mere Road and buildings of local interest.

Starts at:  Beechcroft Day Centre, 501 Slade Road, Erdington, Birmingham B23 7JG

Route instructions:

[1] Come out of the centre and cross Slade Road using the pedestrian traffic island. Go left past the Methodist Church once across. Walk past Hampton Road and turn right into the pleasant tree-lined Kings Road. Note the unusual garden display at No.27.

[2] This becomes Queen’s Road where you bear left to reach Mere Road. Turn left from this onto George Road. Go left and cross this at the junction with Rosary Road to enter Brookvale Park. There are information boards here about the park. From here, you can walk around the reservoir in the middle of the park in a clockwise direction. The waterfront is unfenced.

[3] Pass a children’s play area and just around the corner, you will see the Sailing Clubhouse. On Thursdays, the volunteers from the Friends of Brookvale Park run a teashop from the clubhouse. There are also toilets here. A little further along the path, there is a path down to the water’s edge where you can feed the ducks.

[4] Continue along the waterside path until you come to a pretty bridge over the pool. Cross it and continue ahead to George Road. Cross straight away and then turn right. Walk past Neville Road and then turn left into Mere Road.

[5] Head left into Queen’s Road and then right into Frances Road. At the end, turn left along Slade Road, crossing at the same traffic island as before, to return to the starting point.
