[1] Turn right from Goldieslie Close into Goldieslie Road and when safe, cross over the road and walk to the junction with Jockey Road. Turn left here. Opposite, you will see Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls. You will pass over a railway line that runs between Lichfield and Birmingham New Street.  Continue along Jockey Road.

(A) The school opened in 1929 as Sutton Coldfield High School. Plans for a school had begun in 1906, with sites behind Sutton Colfield Town Hall and in Sutton Park and Rectory Park all being considered before a six-acre (24,000m2 ) field behind Beeches Walk was selected. The school changed its name to Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls in 1962, following changes made to  education policy. It is a partner school to Bishop Vesey Grammar School which was founded in 1527. The two schools regularly partner in events such as drama.

[2] Turn left into Britwell Road. This is a quiet suburban road, noticeable for the change in house styles as you walk towards the district of Boldmere.

(B) Boldmere is a corruption of the work “Baldmoor”, coming from the Middle English “bald” meaning a white patch, and the Anglo Saxon “moor” meaning boggy land. Boldmere literally means a “bald moor”; a treeless patch.

At the junction of Britwell Road and Highbridge Road, you will see Wylde Green United Reform Church.

The church is over 100 years old and has strong links with a church in Germany.

Cross Highbridge Road into Western Road and walk along Western Road until its junction with Station Road.

[3] Turn left into Station Road and walk under the railway bridge, then turn left into Eastern road.

Hazel Court, the famous film actress of the 1950s and 60s, lived on the corner of Eastern and Station Roads. It is believed that she now lives in California and is a painter of some repute. The nearby Wylde Green Railway Station was first opened in 1862.

[4] Walk along Eastern Road, cross Highbridge Road and back into Goldieslie Road to return to the start.
