Become a Community Champion
We are looking for enthusiastic, well-known community members champion our work in the your local area. As a Community Champion you would publicly support the Get Walking Keep Walking cause and champion the health and social benefits of everyday walking. You would need to bring your influence within the local area to promote this valuable and proven initiative that can benefit everyone in your community.
Get Walking Keep Walking (GWKW) is a five week programme of workshops and information sessions, followed by a led walk of between 30-60 minutes duration around the local area. The purpose is to encourage people to achieve the government’s recommended goal of walking for 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week, and to walk more in their daily lives. Sessions are facilitated by a member of staff, and supported by a voluntary Walking Ambassador and a Walk Leader. The ideal candidate for the role would be, for example, a senior health practitioner, a member of parliament, a General Practitioner (GP), a counsellor, school governor, celebrity or television personality. You may be a business person, or an active senior member of a faith group. Whoever you are you must be able to make a clear public commitment to supporting our cause
The role is to publicise and promote the Get Walking Keep Walking programme in local areas by providing strong support in helping to publicise the key messages and values of this innovative new project. The role would involve liaising closely with the Project coordinator who will be working with a range of local community groups including faith groups, elders, young families, black and minority ethnic groups, new entrants to the UK and vulnerable adults.
You will work to promote Get Walking in a wide variety of settings including open days, festivals, public awareness events and local media opportunities. Download the role description and application form for further information and details of how to apply.
