Walk to Work Week, April 26th-30th

Walk to Work Week is back! In 2009 over 4,500 people took part and all together they walked more than twice around the world! This year the event aims to attract even more people and employers to take part. You can get your employer or workplace involved by taking a look at the Walk to Work Week website, link below. Here you can order all sorts of items to support the event at work; everything from leaflets and posters to footcare kits and pedometers! If you would like to order these items be quick – the deadline is March 19.

The week centres around a free online tool where you register your workplace and start encouraging individuals to sign up. During the week, all you need to do is make an extra effort to walk and log how much walking you do. You’ll be able to see how far you’ve walked, how many calories you’ve burned, compare your workplace results with other workplaces and even write Twitter-style updates to let everyone know how you’re getting on!

There are many ways to increase the amount of walking you do at work, here are some of our top tips:

  • Walk part of the way to work; try getting off the bus or train a stop early
  • Hold a walking meeting; head off to a local park to walk and talk!
  • Walk to a meeting: set off a little earlier and save on stress
  • Take a walk on your lunch break; the area around your workplace could be fasnicating!

The Walk to Work Week is a Living Streets campaign. Living Streets are a charity who are working alongside Get Walking Keep Walking in the Travel Actively consortium.
