The London Strollers are a Ramblers walking group which welcome all Londoners and run a variety of both short and longer led walks across the city. The London Strollers runs walks suitable for all abilities and ages and you can try them out for free – with no obligation to join the Ramblers.
Local Councils
Borough councils are responsible for streets, signing, footpaths and most local parks. They have a policy to support walking in the city for transport, health and leisure.
Get Walking Keep Walking currently runs projects in 5 London borough, you can find information about these boroughs below. Alternatively you can find your local borough council on the City of London website. Most boroughs provide maps, walking information and details of led walks.
Lambeth council’s active walks programme offers led walks and lots of information about walking in the borough.
Lewisham council offers group walks and information about walking for health, transport and leisure.
Southwark council has organized group walks, maps and information about walking.
Tower Hamlets council has a series of short local walks leaflets that can be downloaded from the website.
Hackney council publishes a foldout walking map that includes many footpaths as well as roads and streets. The borough had 62 parks and green spaces.
Led Health Walks
Walking for health offers free regular short led walks in hundreds of places across England, often in local parks. They have details of led walking and local walking information.

One of the best online planners for walking trips is at Walkit.com. Enter your start and end points as postcodes or place names and the system will find a route complete with distance, walking time and even calories burned and carbon saved.
Transport for London (TFL) has some excellent information about walking in London including details of routes and events.
Walk London is a network of six top quality long walking routes connects all the London boroughs, managed by Walk London on behalf of Transport for London. All the routes have free leaflets and are clearly signed, there are led walks weekends several times a year.
