Well Done all those who turned out for the first walk of the new programme. Doug and I enjoyed your company very much. Refreshments at Delicious and Divine were very good as usual and I know some of the group were enjoying the experience for the first time. If you meant to come but did not quite make it, don't worry there are more walks planned and the walk leaders will be delighted to see you on their walks.

This walk was repeated earlier this month as it was popular but some folks were unable to attend because of holidys. We had a great time on the walk and were able to spend time in the lovely Escomb Church. Most people on the walk had never visited this church before and were impressed with it especially the gorgeous wall hanging made to celebrate the year 2000.My next walk will be from Durham City out into the countryside. A lovely riverside walk taking in The Old Durham Gardens. A flat, easy walk with beautiful views of Durham Cathedral and Castle (and the prison).

I agree you can keep the gym. You can't beat a good brisk walk in the wonderful north east countryside when you are trying to get rid of cobwebs or a slow amble enjoying the wildlife when you need to chill out. I met my husband through walking so you never know what benefits walking can bring. We enjoy keeping fit and active and while we are doing this we are also spending quality time together in this hectic world..no telly, no pc and mobiles on silent.

It was a lovely walk - very friendly and it was great to have the Zumba dancing first to warm up.
It's a pity the new area of the Park wasn't quite finished but in the main the Park looked fantastic. Well done to all involved.

There are a few alternative walks around Bogart Hole Clough that avoid the hills altogether, or provide a less severe incline up Angel Hill. They do take you off the tarmac paths onto grass/compressed dirt paths though.

Doing this walk anti-clockwise, and then following the path back to Charlstown Rd i.e. not turning right after lake reduces the number and severity of the hills as well.

The boathouse cafe has been completley refurbished and is open daily. It is a great place to start, end or take a midway break and enjoy a cuppa, on a walk around the clough.
