Our new programme of short walks around Co. Durham got off to a great start on Saturday with a lovely walk from Croxdale to Spennymoor through fields and woodland.  Why don’t you make walking your New Year’s Resolution and join us on one of these new walks.  There is something for everyone and watch out for the free gifts if you bring another walker!

Sunday 22nd January at 10am
Picturesque 4.5 mile circular walk from Barnard Castle to Stainton.  .  Make walking your New Year’s Resolution!  Free step counter and Get Walking pack for every walker – start burning off those mince pies!
Meet at Barnard Castle surgery, Victoria Road, DL12 8HT

Saturday 4th February at 11am
Easy 4 mile walk along the riverside and old railway lines of Willington.
Meet at Willington Resource Centre, High Street, DL15 0PF

Sunday 12th February at 10am
Pleasant four mile walk around Gilomby and Bowes.  Visit to the churchyard which houses a memorial to Teesdale’s star crossed lovers and hear their tragic tale! In honour of Valentine’s Day there will be a free gift for anyone who brings another walker along – friend, family member, partner or neighbour!
Meet at the top of Bowes Village (west end near the last houses), before the bridge over A66

Friday 17th February at 11am
Easy 3.5 mile walk from Shildon Railway Museum with the option to visit the museum for free.  As it’s half term this is a great walk for families as well as rail enthusiasts so bring the children and the grandchildren along for a fun and free day out!

Saturday 17th March at 10am
Picturesque 3.75mile walk through Pockerley Manor to Beamish Mill and back via Beamish Forges.  As it’s St. Patrick’s Day why not end the walk with a drink in the Shepherd and Shepherdess Pub.  Tempt your husband or your dad to join you on the walk with the promise of a pint at the end!

Sunday 18th March at 10am
Easy 4 mile walk over fields and a few stiles linking West Rainton and Low Pittington. There are local coffee shops for anyone who fancies a drink and a chat after the walk. In honour of Mother’s Day there will be free flowers for anyone who brings their mother, daughter or grandmother along.

Saturday 31st March at 11am
Celebrate the start of the Easter holidays with a 4 mile walk around Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve to look at the birds and for signs of Spring arriving.  Easter egg for every walker!

    I run a business very close to the walk in Shildon that you did on 17 Feb 2012. I regularly take in half of this walk on a lunch time, the highlight of the walk for us is a slight detour to a butchers shop in St Johns Rd for a freshly baked pork pie.
