Calling all would-be walkers this New Year
Do you live in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham? Would you like to get fitter without the lycra or the gym this year? Make new friends? Discover beautiful nooks and crannies of South London you’ve never seen before? Or, would you like to help other people to do so? Well, if you – or anyone you know – can answer ‘yes’ to any of the above, then Get Walking would like to hear from YOU!
Get Walking Keep Walking will be running their 12 week programmes of led walks in South London throughout 2010 and is looking for volunteers and community groups throughout Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham to take part. For volunteers, Get Walking will provide the free training on leading walks, devising routes, CRB resources and anything else needed, all YOU need is enthusiasm! For community groups, we can provide all the answers about signing your group up.
We are inviting anyone interested in the scheme to join us on the 4th of Feb, Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton, at 3.30 pm, to meet us for a walk, a talk and some celebratory refreshments!
One of our volunteers, Liba, comments: “I really enjoy working with Get Walking – it’s really rewarding to see how much people benefit from the programme. I’ve met people that I would not meet otherwise and have discovered new places.”
Walking is a near-perfect activity; just 30 mins a day 5 times a week will help keep you fit. It lifts your mood and is a great way of making new friends. South London is full of hidden gems, so join in and discover what’s on your doorstep!
